Is God Real; is He True?

That is the most important question we must answer.  I have heard it said, “It does not matter what you believe. God is real whether you believe it or not.”  It is the truth that God is real whether we believe it or not, but I submit that it does matter.  It matters to you. It matters to your way of life. It matters to your destiny.

When asked whether he believed God was real, Jordan Peterson replied that he behaved as if God was real.  You can say that you believe in God, but if you act like He is not, then you are contradicting yourself.

Somehow it does not seem to be a potent issue when times are good.  It becomes a sophomoric issue, something that makes for a delightful debate. But in a crisis that brings one face to face with the desperation of life, the question becomes the most personally important question.

You have to decide: Is God real or not?  Is what He said true or not?  Every hope, and your very life depends on that answer. Every action from here to eternity is based on that answer. It does matter what you believe. It matters to you and your outlook on life. It determines everything.

This is the time to decide.  The truth is, every moment you decide whether God is real and His Word is truth. Every moral decision you make is based on the answer. Do you behave as if God is real?  If you truly believed, how would you behave?

In times of crisis, when you desperately need hope, in the valley of the shadow of death, when a so called Christian does not live up to the name of Christ and you are tempted to become jaded and cynical toward Christianity, when you are confused about your identity because it is not based in Christ, when you have been abused and betrayed, when the dearest thing on this earth is taken from you, what do you believe?

Is He real?  Did He speak truth?  Do you lean on Him?  Do you count everything as loss in order to gain Him?  Do you really trust Him enough to give up everything to obtain the Pearl of Great Price knowing that “all these things will be added unto you?”

Does your heart say, with the disciples, “Lord, where shall we go? Who else has the words of eternal life?”  Do you really believe that He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life? Do you really believe that He is good and that He loves you? How would we live if we really believed?

What do you believe?

The answer is easy.  Look at your life. It will tell you what you believe.
